Hampton Bays Taxpayers Speak Up, Reject $15.8 Million Bond Referendum

I respectfully disagree, Bruce Lee. I was adamantly opposed to the new building, but the library is and can be an asset to the community if properly maintained and run. IMHO, they need to fix the building, streamline the programs, and move on...." Jun 17, 16 9:23 AM

Rumba Files Trademark Infringement Complaint Against New Caribbean-Theme Restaurant In Hampton Bays

I went to Karumba to support a "local" business. I thought it was related to the Deli in the Shopping Center across the Street. I am surprised to see that it is owned by a NYC-based investment firm. I am not sure how I feel about that. When I first saw it opening, I did think it was related to Rumba's. I guess the courts will figure it all out." Jun 19, 16 9:29 AM

State Suspends Liquor License For Charlie Brown's In Hampton Bays In Wake Of Double Stabbing

From SLA records - License #1278675
Principal's Name - Luis & Rosa Tejada
Just google them and the Crystal Bar in Riverhead and Hempstead and see what other fine establishments have been closed down. I suspect that most of the people that went and were made to pay $30 for a drink because it came with a girl never reported it to SLA or the Police. Maybe they should now to make sure they never get their license back." Jun 20, 16 9:18 PM

CB's business model at night included security guards in protective vest. If you bought a drink it was $30 bucks since #20 was to buy a girl a drink. It was reported that there was gang affiliation. Look up the owner and his previous establishments in Riverhead and Hempstead such as the Crystal Bar that were shut down.. We don't need an establishment like this in HB. Nothing like CB;s. " Jun 21, 16 9:04 AM

You all that hate the Boardy Barn are entitled to your opinion, but that doesn't change the fact the CB's became a cesspool. Did all you see the flyer last year with the half naked girls? We were told repeatedly by Town Officials that they were working on it and couldn't disclose what they were doing. Admittedly my friends went to place a bet at night and were extorted into paying 30 bucks for a beer (that came with a girl) and never reported it to SLA and PD. " Jun 21, 16 1:02 PM

"We are blessed: to have a culture of gang stabbings, prostitution, extortion, intimidation, and organized gang activity in our community? How is that a blessing? I am not sure what G(g)od you get your blessing from, but I am pretty sure mine would not approve." Jun 22, 16 6:07 AM

This is about CB's being a cesspool. I saw the original flyer floating around town and it was disgusting. This is not an overall statement about the nightlife in HB. I was at the Beach Hut last night and there were plenty of people listening to good music and eating. The Canal Cafe was packed across the way. There are plenty of venues in HB to enjoy nightlife. We don't need prostitution, extortion, intimidation to be part of our community." Jun 24, 16 10:41 AM

It would be great if there was a mixture of places all year for all ages. We don't need places places like CB's that was a cesspool at night with the new ownership right from the beginning. It would be great if we all supported all of our local businesses that we already have. (And yes, I do appreciate a good early bird special that usually ends up with a wonderful sunset, but no I don't play mahjong) " Jun 24, 16 11:52 AM

OLA Announces Springs School Vote On Latino Parents Committee

I am confused. Why is a not for profit "announcing" something a School District is going to do? Is there an Irish Parents Committee? What about an Eastern European Parents Committee? What about a Native American Indian Parent's Committee? Why should there be a special committee for a specific ethnic group? Doesn't that discriminate against all the other groups?" Southampton Town Says Work On Good Ground Park Is Ahead Of Schedule; Facility Could Open This Fall

Couldn't agree more, jams. I can't wait to see what happens after the ribbon cutting and the political photo ops. Does the Town have a plan to keep this Park viable or is it going to be a social nightmare and a complete waste of taxpayer funds?" Jul 5, 16 8:27 PM

Springs School Board Continues To Face Community Concerns Over Latino Outreach

I am still really confused. Why should one ethnic group be given special treatment? That discriminates against all the other groups. All qualified people should run for positions of leadership and be judged based on their qualifications. If an individual feels that he individually has been discriminated against because of race, age, religion etc., he/she should address the issue. I also don't understand the translation issue - there are so many free on-line programs that translate documents. " Jul 7, 16 12:14 PM

Southampton Town Officials Meet At Triton Lane To Discuss Opening Second Ocean Beach-Driving Area

There is plenty of parking at the HB beaches - no need to park on the beach. The beaches are always crowded with people and should be enjoyed by people - not trucks. Terrible idea. " Jul 12, 16 6:34 PM

so what are you saying - those that are handicapped that don't have relatives that have 4X4 should not be able to use the beach? Make the beach handicapped access for ALL. Don't use that as an excuse to use your 4 X $ - it is insulting to the handicapped and elderly. Drop off your "stuff" and park in the designated areas. No need to drive on the beach when people are trying to walk and enjoy the beach.

Southampton Town Board Will Host July 14 Work Session In Hampton Bays

I am not sure this is any different - just "local" lip service. Only time will tell if there is any real meaningful change or just a lot of photo ops." Jul 13, 16 10:28 AM

Southampton Town Officials Meet At Triton Lane To Discuss Opening Second Ocean Beach-Driving Area

The stretch of beach from this location east to the inlet is one, if not, the last stretch of public access beach from the dunes to the ocean in SHT. IMO, updates and repairs are needed for public (not 4 x 4) access, handicapped access, parking, and pavilions. No need for a full service restaurant at Ponquogue. Sorry toes in the water if I hit a nerve about the disabled. It is nice you care for your family. There are many elderly residents in Hampton Bays that use the handicapped accessible ramps at Ponquogue that need to be maintained and updated. 4 x 4 is not the answer for handicapped accessibility. " Jul 14, 16 2:10 PM

So it seems if you use the Picnic Area you need 4 x 4, if you use the HB beaches you don't. There is no need to have 4 x 4 on HB/EQ beaches when there is handicapped access. Many seniors in HB can't walk. I personally need assistance on and off the beach and can only be on the beach with assistance, so I understand first hand what it is like. It seems you may never have been to one of the Town senior centers." Jul 15, 16 9:01 AM

You did mention your grandparents. I am not a senior citizen either, but cannot go to the beach unattended due to a disability. I cannot travel unattended safely in many areas without assistance. Due to that, I am familiar with the struggles of daily living for the disabled and elderly. As I said, it is nice that you care about your family so much - not everyone is so blessed. However, 4 x 4 access, based on my experiences, is unrelated." Jul 15, 16 10:43 AM

Good Ground Park Opening Weekend Details Released

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Only time will tell if this doesn't result in a complete waste of taxpayer funds and become a social nightmare. " Jul 21, 16 12:45 PM

Southampton Town Board Awards Ponquogue Beach Pavilion Design Contract

AnnaAdrag - I think what HB90 was referring to is Jay's idea about a full service restaurant at Ponquogue. I suspect that most of the residents that use the beach know that the beach pavilion needs renovation. Many residents have voiced their opposition of a fall service restaurant at that location. I hope the study is completed in a fair way and not to used to support Jay's idea with a "wink and a nod". Any of the residents that are opposed to the full service restaurant need to follow this closely." Jul 27, 16 7:00 PM

Southampton Town Board Members Continue To Search For Affordable Housing Solutions

We have been told repeatedly that this would not apply in high dense areas such as HB by Town Officials. Time will tell if they stand by their word." Aug 3, 16 11:54 AM

Neighbors Fear Pair Of Pit Bulls That Attacked Small Dog In Hampton Bays

I have passed many a menacing dog with an owner saying "no worries - his/her bark is worse than his/her bite, etc." I love dogs as much as the next person, but all dog owners need to take responsibility for their dogs. While it is not about a breed, it is common sense that certain breeds/size can do more damage. I don't think I have ever heard of a child being killed by a yorkie. It is sad that residents feel like prisoners in this own homes because of a neighbors dog." Aug 4, 16 8:32 AM

UPDATE: DA Says Evidence Insufficient To Connect Man Arrested For Southampton Break-In And Sexual Assault With May Stabbing

I could not believe that the courts let 3 of the 4 suspects out without bail. Maybe these guys didn't have the knife but they stood by and watched their friend try to kill someone and then got in the getaway car. Now this. This is horrible. I hope the Judges take a good hard look what they are doing protecting criminals and throwing the law abiding citizens of the Town to the wolfs. " Aug 5, 16 9:49 PM

I am so NOT HB PROUD right now. This criminal, gang member was out at the Carnival with OUR children. WTF. Where are our Town Officials putting an end to this - stop with the photo ops and ribbon cuttings - get back to basics - focus on the safety of our community. This has gone on way too long." Aug 6, 16 2:20 PM

I would like to see how the immigrant activists spin this. They are part of the problem - condoning every illegal behavior, calling law abiding citizens racists and opening the door for really dangerous people to come into out community. The Town tells us about a great park or some great study that is going to "revitalize" the community. Do they realize that it is not going to matterwhen people are afraid to go out of their homes and the good folks move out or do they think we are idiots? " Aug 6, 16 5:01 PM

...and there it is...the spin...the insults...thank you for proving my point...sticks and stones... BTW - not a Trump fan." Aug 6, 16 6:32 PM

Well for starters, the $ 2 million cash bail sounds good. A little more attention code enforcement, driving checkpoints, garbage, graffiti; upkeep of the beaches Make a clear statement that violating the Town Code and Laws are not acceptable in the Town. Don't negotiate on the fines. Let the law-abiding citizens know you have our backs." Aug 6, 16 9:08 PM

My family thanks you Judge Wilson." Aug 7, 16 12:30 AM

So now I am confused, is 27east also correcting the story about the hearing of July 28th for Mr. Guitierrez-Zacupa which reported that Judge Schiavoni released him without bail? He may not be the one that committed the alleged rape, but he stood and watched his buddy slice and dice a human being and then got in the get away car. No matter what, IMO, the voters need to look long and hard at this upcoming election. Even the Town Board points fingers at the judges for not carrying out justice as it relates to code violations. Let's make sure that their records show that they protect the law-abiding citizens of the Town and are not swayed by their own personal bias - It is not hard to figure out - just watch the company that they keep." Aug 8, 16 1:23 PM

Elliot, while I agree with most of what you say, I respectfully disagree that there are those in positions of power have turned their backs on their hard-working neighbors who call for unbiased law and code-enforcement by over-compensated for the immigrant community. The officials may be hard-working and dedicated but are blinded by their bias view and have allowed lawlessness in our community. They have to stop or they have to go. It has gone on for too long." Aug 8, 16 3:12 PM

Agreed HamptonDad, I think that there are some individuals in positions of power that have misdirected compassion by leaving the homeless situation the way it is (which is actually not compassionate at all). From my experience, not every homeless person is dangerous, but there are some. If you have first hand knowledge of a homeless camp, please report it to one of Town Board members." Aug 8, 16 4:08 PM

...more than 8 years less than 8 years, who cares? You admit it is going on and needs to stop - that's what is important. Thanks for agreeing." Aug 8, 16 7:12 PM

For me, this is not about Reagan or Obama, it is about the Town of Southampton Officials turning their backs on the law-abiding citizens when they call for law and code enforcement. Things have to change for the better or we need to change the officials." Aug 8, 16 8:50 PM

Suffolk County Officials To Host Narcan Training Session In Sag Harbor Tuesday

IMHO, the need for this program is nothing Suffolk County should be proud of. A report on how they are getting rid of the heroin supply and suppliers would be newsworthy. " Aug 8, 16 8:59 PM

Vice President Vacations In Southampton Village

I suspect he will have a security detail so he doesn't need to worry about being mugged or stabbed by a potential gang member like the rest of us common folks." Aug 9, 16 11:35 AM

What planet am I living "in" - I think you mean "on" - the answer is earth. I may live by the beach, but I don't have my head buried in the sand (or any place else for that matter). " Aug 9, 16 12:02 PM

correction - johnj - thought I saw "in" not "on" - time to get a new phone!." Aug 9, 16 12:13 PM

JuneBug, we all can look for the good in the world, but we can't put our heads in the sand. "The Only thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing." " Aug 9, 16 2:14 PM

Suffolk County Officials To Host Narcan Training Session In Sag Harbor Tuesday

I am not sure I would make the same analogy. The heroin problem to me is more like an epidemic than a fire. As with any epidemic, you can cure one patient, but you need to get to the source of the epidemic to stop the epidemic. I think, however, we can all agree that we are thankful that this drug exists and that it is proven to save lives." Aug 9, 16 8:39 PM

One other thing to note is that, sadly, the drug does not cure the addiction." Aug 9, 16 9:43 PM

Police Searching For Driver In Noyac Hit-And-Run

I couldn't believe it when I saw it (or didn't see it). The Editor called the comments "ugly". Not everything that is happening in our Town is "pretty" - sorry that some folks don't want to hear that or take responsibility in their part in what is happening." Aug 10, 16 6:54 AM

Lack Of Evidence Prompts Release Of Four Men Charged In May Double Stabbing Outside Hampton Bays Bar

We need to make sure we don't post anything "ugly", otherwise the editor may take this site down too. So I guess I am done since there is nothing "pretty" about any of this." Aug 10, 16 2:03 PM

Local Residents Return From Delegation Trip With New Views On Immigration

There are so many disturbing things about this Foundation. The Foundation was started by the fortune made by a fertilizer company, which, by all accounts destroyed and continues to destroy LI's waters. From their website, the leadership decides to invest the $60 million to "benefit local immigration issues in Nassau and Suffolk County". From their 2013 IRS Form 990, they fave millions of dollars to various groups such as they contributed $350,000 to Long Island Wins, $150,000 to Latino Justice, $150,000 to National Immigration Forum. The 6 executives split $600,000 a year. But heck, they gave $250 to the Peconic Land Trust to help the environment. Las question, before the editor deletes my post, what do activists groups do? Do they really hep people or do they just take a paycheck and demand other people help people. " Aug 11, 16 7:51 AM
