Immigrants Share Fears Of National Policies, ICE Raids

Here is another definition for you JuneBug Anarchy a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority. Some illegal immigrants say they have left because of the anarchy in their countries and then don't want (or can't because of their status) follow the laws of the US and bring the anarchy to the U.S. They you have those that get paid to "advocate" since they probably can't get real jobs that add to the economy paid by the contributions from the left." More Registered Democrats Than Republicans In Southampton Town For The First Time

but not on the local level "all government is local" - any one party too long in office gets too comfortable. There will be 3 seats on the SHT Board open this year" Feb 24, 17 7:19 AM

Immigrants Share Fears Of National Policies, ICE Raids

I would not say we caused the problems, but we certainly did not help either because of the US Government pretending that they were not aware of what was happening or inept foreign policy. Parts of the middle east are now uninhabitable. There is no easy fix, but we need to start somewhere." Feb 24, 17 9:04 AM

Dtree, I know people that vacation and buy homes in Mexico and other Latin American Territories. No one I know is vacating in Syria or Afghanistan. Do you? If 1/2 of the financial backers to the hate and fear mongers and activists would put their money to good instead of evil, the world would be much better off. Not everything needs to come from the tax dollars of U.S. Citizens." Feb 24, 17 3:33 PM

Westhampton Beach Main Street Overhaul Requires Removal Of Dozens Of Trees

You made some good points about the Ponquogue Pavilion survey process. However, it took a lot of people from HB demanding that they reach out to more of the community. The Good Ground Park boondoggle is a completely different story. The design and construction process was disgraceful - limited community input - cost overruns - no $$$ for comfort stations - a one day opening that some believe (including me) was for the benefit of ATH election campaign. If you look at the google maps before and after, you will see the destruction of probably 100s of trees. All so disgraceful." Feb 27, 17 1:00 PM

Hampton Bays Library Schedules Meeting To Discuss Upcoming $9.9 Million Bond Referendum

This so disgraceful. How can $1 million of repairs and renovations reported at the original meeting now snowball into $9.9 million? i have zero confidence in this Board to be good stewarts of our tax monies. I don't need to go to a meeting to hear their "explanation". VOTE NO" Feb 28, 17 9:44 AM

It may be too late to request one, but you can try. " Feb 28, 17 4:20 PM

The literature sent out by the Library is complete propaganda. The "cost per day" is completely disingenuous. Do they think the taxpayers are idiots? There was never a $9.9 million renovation as part of their original analysis. They are wasting so much money on referendums and consultants, they could have fixed the roof 5 x. I am so done with the Library Board. VOTE NO." Feb 28, 17 10:50 PM

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

This article is disgraceful. I have seen ridiculous liberal articles from the Press before, but this is maybe the worst. Once again they are mixing illegal immigration and legal immigration. Can I FOIL the names of the contractors and get them to my friends at the IRS? ChrisDiPietra, you have missed a very important piece of the employment tax law. An illegal immigrant cannot be an employee. PERIOD. Illegal immigrants can voluntarily pay taxes as an independent contractor, but employers cannot pay them legally. PERIOD " Mar 2, 17 5:05 PM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

God helps those that help themselves. The illegal immigrant population have been convinced by activists and zealots that it is "OK" and have not tried to get their status legal some for decades. Why is it now Mr. Zeldin's problem? Where is all the money that goes to the activist organizations going - demanding everyone "accept" the illegal status....I wonder if Sr. Mary Beth Moore from Centro Coarzon de Maria has her papers - she's from Canada. I can only hope she overstayed her work visa and is eligible for deportation.." Mar 2, 17 6:17 PM

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

Mr. Gorman, are you saying only immigrants work hard and add to the community? I want the playing field to be level for everyone - to have access to legal financing, pay employees a fair wage, pay all taxes and insurance. The illegal underground cash economy has ruined the East End of Long Island It has fueled the over development of the East End - boohoo for Mr. Farrell that he can't build another $10 million house. The cash economy fuels human trafficking (look to the Nail Salons in NYC), drugs and gangs. ENOUGH" Mar 3, 17 9:11 AM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

I know people who came here on work visas and continued the process to make them permanent. The zealots and activities should have been taking the millions of dollars for decades and used that to work on a process instead of standing in righteous indignation against the system. If they actually trued to help people they would put themselves out of jobs and Sr. Mary Beth would have to move out of her waterfront estate in Sag Harbor paid by the Church and do some real good in El Salvador " Mar 3, 17 9:18 AM

June Bug, First of all I am not angry. Anger is a wasted emotion.. yes there were nuns murdered in El Salvador decades ago. How many people were murdered in Chicago last year? Sr. Mary Beth is a zealot that has no idea what it means to live in the real world in the US. She is not even from the US. She lives in a waterfront estate in Sag Harbor paid for by contributions. She stands in righteous indignation against the laws of the US bringing the anarchy of El Salvador to the US. I doubt Jesus would be real happy with many of these people today - from what I know from the Bible - he wasn't a big fan of zealots.

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

From my observations, the underground cash economy has ruined the east end. Generally, "Pigs get fed and hogs get slaughtered" - but here the hogs got fed too. Hopefully, that will change." Mar 3, 17 1:02 PM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

What I said, it that people on legitimate work visas were able to stay legally. The undocumented were hoping that it was "easier to ask forgiveness than permission" and they found out it was not the case. How did they get that idea? From the zealots and the activists. Millions of dollars have gone to these groups and from what I see all they do is "fight" the system - not try to make any real change. Why? because if they did - they will be out of a job. " Mar 3, 17 1:21 PM

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

There is enough blame to go around on this issue EXCEPT the hard working middle class that have tried to follow the rules. " Mar 3, 17 2:19 PM

First why did you assume I was "white"? By definition if preferential treatment is given to one class of people (Pick one - any one) it is discriminatory against every other person. I have been called a lot of things in my six decades here on this planet - but "sensitive" is not one of them." Mar 3, 17 3:14 PM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

My comment do not come from a place of anger, but a place of fact-based analyses for fairness and equity. I have a relationship with God not the Church. " Mar 3, 17 4:08 PM

and June Bug, if you haven't figured it out, my other long-term relationship is with the IRS - death and taxes as they say." Mar 3, 17 4:47 PM

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

If you are directing that at me, I would absolutely have the same reaction. Everyone should be treated fairly no matter what ethnic background, gender, religion, etc. That is exactly my point - level field for everyone. No one is above (or below) the law. period. " Mar 3, 17 4:53 PM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

SH_RES - It is sad to me that the children end up paying the price for the mistakes of their parents, but their parents need to take responsibility for their actions. What type of message do you send your kids - the laws don't apply to you? If a citizen breaks the law, doesn't he/she go to jail whether or not they have children? I do not know first hand the ratio of illegal immigration versus legal immigration on the east end, but based on the "righteous indignation" of the activists and the zealots, it must be high. Why does it cost $250 a sf to build a house on the east end when it costs $100 a sf elsewhere in the country? Where is all the money going? I have zero tolerance for money laundering - it fuels gangs, drugs and human trafficking. The problem is not just the act of coming to the U.S. illegally, it is the fact that you need to live illegally - use false ID, drive without a license, work off the books. This is harmful to our community especially if it is at the epidemic portion the media, activists and zealots have made it out to be." Mar 4, 17 9:03 AM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

And yes, I have zero tolerance for the zealots and activists. $58 million of the Miracle Gro fortune (which ruined the east end environment, but I digress) goes to The Hagedon Foundation to help the Latinos on LI. Where were they in trying to get the illegal immigrants legal? Sandra Dunn has no problem going to a Southampton Town Board meeting and asking them to violate their oath of office and pick and chose who the laws should apply to. I guess that is how she earns her six figure salary." Mar 4, 17 9:47 AM

You are right June Bug, I am angry at people who keep telling me that I am angry when I am not." Mar 4, 17 10:31 AM

And some people, become so self-aware, that they are unaware to the world around them." Mar 4, 17 11:05 AM

East End Employers Say Immigrant Workers Pay Taxes, Provide Foundation For Local Economy

This article makes it sound like the entire construction industry is fueled by illegal immigration - otherwise deportation is a non-issue. Why does it cost $250 sf to build a house on the east end when it costs $100 a sf elsewhere in the Country? Where is the money going? Is the over development fueled by the illegal immigration and the illegal immigration is fueled by the over-development? Ad.....wp. This is not a "knee jerk reaction to anything "cutie". From what i see this is a major issue in our community and it is time for someone to "peel back the onion." If all of this activity has fueled the underground cash economy - it should be no surprise that there is a heroin problem and gangs on Long Island." Mar 4, 17 11:35 AM

There are 14,000 residents - do you know that about 7,000 are illegal immigrants? I don't know that, but the government should and start to deal with it is a positive way. You can only sweep things under the rug for so long, before everyone starts to trip over it. Like AA, Step 1 - admit you have a problem." Mar 4, 17 12:38 PM

Zeldin Says Deportations Should Be Compassionate And Consider Circumstances, But Not Be Limited By Exclusions

and yes, I can see how my sarcasm may be misinterpreted as anger...." Mar 4, 17 12:40 PM

June Bug, this is where someone who poses as "self-aware" is not aware of what is going on. See my comment below about the $58 million that came from Miracle Gro that went to Hagedon Foundation. No reasonable person would believe that they have put that money to good use. As far as Sr. Mary Beth living in a waterfront estate with the rest of the religious while she allowed the immigrants she represented to live in unsafe conditions in Hampton Bays is disgraceful. They have been in the community for more than a decade and have done nothing to help illegal immigrants become legal. I can see we are just not going to agree. Just don't judge me - not very "spiritual" " Mar 4, 17 3:40 PM

Hampton Bays Library Schedules Meeting To Discuss Upcoming $9.9 Million Bond Referendum

Captain Sag, there were never 5 options - only 4. this 9.9 million was never discussed. They pulled this one out of .....the air. I would hate to think the dedicated members of the Board are so inept pr have "Southampton Village envy" to put this through. I suspect that Ms. Lavista sees the writing on the wall - that her job is going the way of 8 tracks and this is her job security. Same with Sandpebble if they are involved again." Mar 4, 17 4:03 PM
