East Hampton Town Hall To Host Discussion On Tenants' Rights

I really don't understand why this group has any authority in Town Government. The government is supposed to be run without bias FOR or AGAINST any group. If OLA wants to help people, good for them, but there should be no involvement by the Town or any other government. agency. It discriminates against everyone else in the Town." Nov 4, 16 6:13 PM

Special Litter Vehicle Purchased To Clean Up Southampton Town

There is garbage everywhere. I wonder if the Town ever enforced the fines for littering or is that just another code they never bother to enforce. They just keep enabling those that don't follow the rules. I am starting to think Jay really doesn't get it. I had such high hopes for him. Oh well only a dozen or so more months of him - hopefully the Republicans will put some one up next year that understands the importance of following the rules." Nov 4, 16 7:10 PM

Dave H - if you live in Calverton maybe you have no idea about all the trash on the sidewalks and streets next to the signs that state there is a $250 fine for littering. They could pay a "rent a cop" to give out ticket and it would be self funding. The saying that the difference between men and boys is the size of their toys - I guess Jay needed a bigger toy. Giving out fines is just as popular - Jay doesn't want to be unpopular. " Nov 4, 16 9:35 PM

North Sea Citizen - it is not just about the equipment - it is the fact that it is newsworthy in our Town. What a sad statement that picking up garbage is newsworthy. " Nov 6, 16 9:35 AM

Hampton Bays Bar Will Reopen With New Name, Owner

Wow G - harsh - maybe you own a bar and you don't want the competition. I applaud this woman for opening a business. It is not going to be easy, but I hope she makes it." Nov 8, 16 1:27 PM

wow again G - how sad for you that you seem to be such a Negative Nellie - and talk about knee jerk reactions to assume I am someone that I am not. Again, I applaud Ms. Cunningham and anyone that is willing to take the risk to open a business. I wish her all the best. " Nov 8, 16 6:48 PM

Southampton Town Board To Vote On 2017 Budget Friday

Am I understanding that the Town of Southampton taxpayers are getting saddled with the career politician, Jay Schneiderman's retirement benefits? Am I to understand the Ms. Lofstad and Mr. Bouvier are rubber stamping the budget despite the pleas for additional services in HB and Flanders? Once again, Ms. Scalera is the voice of reason. We need a few more like her on the Town Board." Nov 15, 16 8:21 PM

East End Latinos React To President Elect Trump

OLA should never have had a seat on the committee to select the new police chief unless every other ethnic group had a seat. It is disgraceful. OLA can do whatever they want and the Press can do whatever they want, but when the Town Officials make bias decisions or give the appearance of bias decisions, they violate their oath of office and need to step down. Director Of Hampton Bays Church Recognized For Her Dedication To Service

This is truly a heart warming story. But for every one of these, there is at least one story of someone leaving the food pantry driving off in their late model SUV's on an iphone. I personally stopped giving to the food pantry and I help people in our community directly. I cut out the middle man since I am not sure that they are always good stewards of my money." Nov 16, 16 9:41 AM

You do know she is a paid employee of the Church, right? It is wonderful that people choose to help people as their work, but many are paid and in some cases very substantially. Not saying that is the case here." Nov 17, 16 12:10 PM

Southampton Town Board To Vote On 2017 Budget Friday

Yes the wonderful Good Ground Park that has no comfort stations, was open for a day to gain for political reasons, had the Town waste 45,000 dollars for temporary bathrooms and appears t have little to no money in the 2017 budget to maintain and operate it. It won't be "good ground" for long." Nov 17, 16 12:39 PM

Southampton Town Board Adopts 2017 Budget, But Not Without Debate Over Key Parts Of Supervisor's Plan

IBigfresh - can't agree with you more. We need to get behind anyone that runs against him. " Nov 19, 16 7:46 AM

Group Pushes For More Street Lights Along Flanders Road After Hit-And-Run Accident Seriously Injures Riverside Man

Why is councilperson's Bouvier pictured here? Didn't he just vote in favor of Jay's budget despite the pleas of Flanders residents for more monies for police and other quality of life issues? Some of our elected officials really need to stop talking out of both sides of their months. They should be ashamed of themselves." Nov 19, 16 8:00 AM

Director Of Hampton Bays Church Recognized For Her Dedication To Service

First of all, we are taught in Church that we are not supposed to advertise our good deeds and works. Churches have no accountability to their donors or the public as to where the money comes from and where the money goes. Other not-for-profit organization are required to file annual reports with the IRS. " Nov 19, 16 2:33 PM

Southampton Town Board Adopts 2017 Budget, But Not Without Debate Over Key Parts Of Supervisor's Plan

Thank you Councilpersons Glinka and Scalera and shame on Bouvier and Lofstad. Monies that should go to the services for the taxpayers that fund the budget are instead going to a career politician for his personal benefit. Shame Shame Shame. Enough with this "3 J's" nonsense. You are both smarter than that." Nov 20, 16 9:16 AM

Seriously TB, first you back ATH because of her strong fiscal skills, and now you throw her under the bus because it doesn't benefit Jay. It has become clear to me that Jay is out for Jay at all costs. He is so transparent as to his disdain for anyone that questions or disagrees with him. I am embarrassed for Julie and John - they look like deer in headlights at the Town board meetings when Jay is speaking. They are smarter than that - shame on them. " Nov 20, 16 8:45 PM

Couldn't agree more - whether or not the positions are filled with those that lost on Election. The Town's budget has not kept up with the increase in activity on basic services. Jay represented that it would take "hundreds of thousands of dollars" to maintain Good Ground Park but it looks like there is zero. He has heard the pleas for additional code and law enforcement...and nothing. He is certainly proved himself not to be a man of his word (just a man of the word of the day). Julie and John proved themselves to be puppets and turned their back on Hampton Bays and Flanders. Everyone in HB and Flanders needs to do the same when they ask for our vote. I am so disappointed. East End Latinos React To President Elect Trump

While it may be true that illegal immigrants can "voluntarily" pay taxes, employers cannot legally hire them. They then don't have to pay employers taxes or insurance. What happened to people's sense of right and wrong? Where are their ethics? Small businesses that don't want to break the law are eventually put out of business since they can't compete. I hope that part of "making America Great again" is fining these employers and making them pay all the back taxes. The underground cash economy has ruined the East End. It is disgusting. East End Community Rallies Around Victim Of Racist Attack In Hampton Bays

What proof do you have that the local police treat people different based on the color of their skin? Do you know if they every found the two assailants that broke into one of the HB homes and tied a teenager up with duct tape and held a gun to his head? What about the break in in Squirewoods? What about all the crimes in HB and elsewhere in SHT? Please remember "Let there be peace on earth..and let it begin with me..." " Nov 22, 16 8:36 PM

Wild Turkeys Are Thriving On The East End, Thanks To Efforts To Bolster Population

I had more than a dozen in my yard on Sunday morning. They are fun to watch from a distance but not when you are trying to do chores, they don't more and can get aggressive. " Nov 28, 16 2:31 PM

East Hampton Town Officials Say Family Lived In Illegal Basement Apartment With 6-Foot Ceilings And No Smoke Detectors

Quote from East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell from Patch "Illegal and unsafe basement occupancy creates the potential for tragic consequences for occupants and overcrowds neighborhoods and (the code) must be strictly enforced." I can only DREAM that one day we may actually hear the same thing from one of the Southampton Town Supervisors." Nov 30, 16 4:59 PM

KKK Business Cards Found At Hampton Bays Train Station

I don't know what is more bizarre about this story - that someone made up KKK "business cards" or that the Guardian Angels are at the Hampton Bays train station." Dec 2, 16 7:41 AM

They say that a liberal is just a conservative that hasn't been mugged yet. There has been enough gang activity in and around Hampton Bays to warrant concern for all parties, but if you go back to some of the editorials in the Press, you will see two wide points of view - one from the liberal editor of the Press being somewhat dismissive about the presence of the Guardian Angels. It seems that there are some people that want to put their heads in the sand on the East End." Dec 2, 16 9:36 AM

fire11, Brentwood is not that far from Hampton Bays. And what about the gang stabbing at CB's in HB and the sexual assault in Southampton Village by the same MS-13 gang member?" Dec 2, 16 2:14 PM

Infoseeker - the original report was "more than 2", but the later reports (especially after the sexual assault in the Village) were that the the 4 involved in the gang stabbing represented 2 rival organized gangs, and 2 of the four attended HB High School which mean that they were living in HB." A Private Meeting To Discuss A Proposed Tuckahoe Road Reroute Is Canceled As 'Premature'

TB,

1. Let Suffolk County pay the bonus - not Southampton. It is BS and you know it.
2. The Park Opening was a disgrace. They could have waited until next year. they have no monies in the 2017 to operate and maintain it. It was all smoke and mirrors .
3. The CSEA "bargaining" agreement settlement was another disgrace. It violates every principle of collective bargaining - labor relations 101.
4. The jury is still out on the Golf Course.

East Hampton Town Officials Say Family Lived In Illegal Basement Apartment With 6-Foot Ceilings And No Smoke Detectors

That is probably part of the the SHT Supervisor's initiative of accessory apartments - LOL" Dec 4, 16 8:20 AM

A Private Meeting To Discuss A Proposed Tuckahoe Road Reroute Is Canceled As 'Premature'

TB, No one cares about Good Ground Park??? - do YOU live in HB - Is it ok with you that they wasted $45K on temporary bathrooms for one day? Is it ok with you that they have NO monies in the 2017 budget so they can let it turn into an attractive nuisance? What about the fact they they ran out of money for the permanent comfort stations? What about the fact that it is supposedly closed, but there are no gates and kids are using the new amphitheater as a skateboard park? What about the homeless on the benches? Do YOU pass by there and see any construction. Please, some of us base our conclusions on facts, not fiction. " Dec 4, 16 11:54 PM

I wonder if Jay gives bonuses to his motel workers based on their service in other Montauk motels." Dec 5, 16 9:46 AM

TB what I meant, many of the HB residents recognize that, the opening day could have waited until next year when the Town administration had a real plan and monies for operations and maintenance and completed the comfort stations (oh that is right, they don't have the money for the comfort stations) . They did not need to waste 45K on temporary bathrooms. Many of the taxpayers are more concerned with long term benefits and detriments than a feel good photo op for elected officials. " Dec 5, 16 12:11 PM

Tb as and far as the CSEA agreement, I participated in at least a dozen bargaining agreements in my career. The newer employers (or those that were not even hired yet) end up paying the price for the more senior employees benefits I am not saying it is right, but that is the way the unions bargain. What the Supervisor did was violate the basic principle of collective bargaining. They should have just waited for the next contract. " Dec 5, 16 12:23 PM

Sorry TB, but I don't agree. Unless there is a cost-sharing agreement or some Suffolk County Fund that handles all the same or similar situations it puts an unfair tax burden on the taxpayers of Southanpton. I don't care if it is an extra dollar, it is the principle. " Dec 6, 16 7:21 AM

Hampton Bays Wrestling Coach Arrested On Drug Possession Charges

The Editor of the Press removed the comment section when the CB stabbing comments got "ugly" and reported that ALL comment sections related to crimes would be eliminated. Please administer this policy consistently. " Dec 7, 16 8:52 AM

Frank, I don't see this differently - the editor said all alleged crimes so not to victimize a person before he was convicted. Why is this different? They should administer the policy consistently. There were many articles since the stabbing that the editor eliminated the comment section." Dec 7, 16 9:44 AM
