Sustainability Plan Pushback Continues In Southampton Town

i find it quite fascinating that if you have a different point of view you may be categorized. if i were to look at the group that participated in the formulation of these ideas, and you may also feel free to put 'liberals' in the same group and probably most 'democrats', i would have to say i would call them a bunch of commies, communists, pinkos, reds. the main problem with the southampton 400+ plan for is that it is full of the same kind of institutions that brought us to where we are today. i just do not see how these solutions are going t be regulated into effect by a government that is totally impotent against the state and federal governments. the state tells us that it does not matter if your beaches are eroding you can only use sand and not rock; if your groundwater is fouled with 2,4d, round-up, temik, pendemethalin, atrazine or simizine too bad because the New York State Department of Environmental conservation and the Federal Evironmental Protection Agency approved it. So, how is the town going to improve fisheries and agriculture? Are they going to ban landscape chemicals from being sold to homeowners from our local hardware stores and landscape shops? Would they deny them a Certificate of Occupancy if they are going to sell these chemicals?
Their remedy of contracting down around the hamlet and living above a retail store sounds great, if you just graduated from college. I did not hear anything within this document about restricting the size of the mc mansions.
Our economy based on selling off our real estate to a rapacious, hedonistic and morally corrupt elite is what is killing the goose that laid the golden egg. How much agricultural reserve land, that we bought the development rights on are now residing under grass treated for weeds and artificially fertilized so the new mc mansion owner has effectively stolen some of our 'commons'. Agricultural land without a farmer and without productivity [food, grain or fiber] should be taxed as part of the residential lot not agricultural land.
This plan in effect has no rudder. Very important things are talked about in very broad and specific terms. If i had handed in a document like this at Southampton College I would have gotten a C- for my effort. I suggest we table this and go back to the drawing board and maybe get some farmers and fishermen involved. The plan lacks any 'heritage wisdom'.

George, "things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden." Nobody here, in the anti-plan crowd is using 'distortive tactics'. Maybe we just see things differently than the commies do. The simple damning facts about government, whether republican or democrat is that on the state and federal level it is a corporate state. That is a nice way of saying a fascist state. Local governments have to kow-tow to that state of being.
The demographics of the people that participated in the formulation of this plan are not representative of the town. With the way these things are done, with the hired leader of the 'visioning' process these kind of 'plans' get steered along a specific path from the outset. It is not really organic and if you were to look at other 'plans' like this all over the country that were done in this way they would all look pretty much the same. That is the 'visioning' process. That is the plan. The company hired could have just given the town a template for a fraction of the cost." Jun 29, 13 6:29 AM

what's the matter george, you can't address me personally?
thanks for the complement; people should be more like dogs.
better than being a red. What is it about the 'plan' that you think is so great george. i layed out what i think it lacks and you only offer up insults. Typical of your type, turkey " Jun 29, 13 10:49 AM

this is the modis opereendi of most of these folks that favor the 'plan'; if you object to it they call you names and insult you. i have listed what i think is wrong yet george / turkey only casts out aspersions. i still await to hear what george thinks is so great about the 'plan' but just like the town board he cannot or will not tell you.
And this is the quality of person that the democratic party has on their executive committee? feh" Jun 30, 13 6:12 AM

i do not have a cell phone. soon all of your brains will be fried. i do not appreciate being bathed in the electromagnetic fields that these things function on. not much i can do about it except place wilhelm reich's orgonite around town and negate where ever possible the deleterious effects. the immaturity of humans is amazing. i watch from my truck as people talk on the phone making one handed turns and texting always looking in their laps fiddling with these things. dinner guests always glancing at their phones [never invited back after that]... what a bunch of babies. i am sorry for you that your life is so dependent on this toy." UPDATE: Baykeeper McAllister Says He Was Fired Illegally: Denies Charges Of Affair

no reason to speculate. i had also applied for the job in 1998. i played soccer with kevin at Southampton college for a couple of years. the job would have frustrated me to the point of distraction. in 1980, when the brown tide decimated the peconic bay estuary we, as a town did NOTHING to change our habits. the rape of the land continued. the use of landscape chemicals continued. we live on a water shed. how we effect water quality on the land has a direct on the water quality of the aquatic eco-systems; whether that is groundwater or baywater or pond/lake water. we refused to give up our lifestyle. homes got bigger. clearing of lots mean just that; very little selective cutting of trees for the building enevelope. just cut everything down then put in a chemical lawn on acidic woodland soil. what a bunch of geniuses. also consider the installation of geothermal systems that pump heated water back into the aquifer and then add to that the yearly cleaning with some nasty chemical. that goes back into the groundwater. swimming pools getting their seasonal shock or flocculant that goes into the groundwater. tons of roundup, 2, 4d [weed and feed], pendamethalin and a plethora of other chemicals that all say not to use where there is ground water or aquatic systems with fish and shell fish.
so, in my estimation the baykeeper job was really only an illusion. it was there to pretend that we care. but in the end too few care and they do not have enough money to do anything about it. now, if you gave me a swat team then something could be done.

how did this happen? maybe this can explain. the lawyer went and got the police and they would have dragged me out in handcuffs if i tried to finish reading it, so here it is: "Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease. Against stupidity we are defenseless. Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one's prejudgment simply need not be believed--in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical--and when facts are irrefutable they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.
If we want to know how to get the better of stupidity, we must seek to understand its nature. This much is certain, that it is in essence not an intellectual defect but a human one. There are human beings who are of remarkably agile intellect yet stupid, and others who are intellectually quite dull yet anything but stupid. We discover this to our surprise in particular situations. The impression one gains is not so much that stupidity is a congenital defect but that, under certain circumstances, people are made stupid or that they allow this to happen to them. We note further that people who have isolated themselves from others or who live in solitude manifest this defect less frequently than individuals or groups of people inclined or condemned to sociability. And so it would seem that stupidity is perhaps less a psychological than a sociological problem. It is a particular fonn of the impact of historical circumstances on human beings, a psychological concomitant of certain external conditions. Upon closer observation, it becomes apparent that every strong upsurge of power in the public sphere, be it of a political or a religious nature infects a large part of humankind with stupidity. It would even seem that this is virtually a sociological-psychological law. The power of one needs the stupidity of the other. The process at work here is not that particular human capacities, for instance, the intellect, suddenly atrophy or fail. Instead, it seems that under the overwhelming impact of rising power, humans are deprived of their inner independence and, more or less consciously, give up establishing an autonomous position toward the emerging circumstances. The fact that the stupid person is often stubborn must not blind us to the fact that he is not independent. In conversation with him, One virtually feels that one is dealing not at all with him as a person, but with slogans, catchwords, and the like that have taken possession of him. He is under a spell, blinded, misused, and abused in his very being. Having thus become a mindless tool, the stupid person will also be capable of any evil and at the same time incapable of seeing that it is evil. This is where the danger of diabolical misuse lurks, for it is this that can once and for all destroy human beings.
Yet at this very point it becomes quite clear that only an act of liberation, not instruction, can overcome stupidity. Here we must come to terms with the fact that in most cases a genuine internal liberation becomes possible only when external liberation has preceded it. Until then we must abandon all attempts to convince the stupid person. This state of affairs explains why in such circumstances our attempts to know what "the people" really think are in vain and why, under these circumstances, this question is so irrelevant for the person who is thinking and acting responsibly. The word of the Bible that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom declares that the internal liberation of human beings to live the responsible life before God is the only genuine way to overcome stupidity.
But these thoughts about stupidity also offer consolation in that they utterly forbid us to consider the majority of people to be stupid in every circumstance. It really will depend on whether those in power expect more from peoples' stupidity than from their inner independence and wisdom."

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (German: [ˈdiːtʁɪç ˈboːnhœfɐ]; 4 February 1906 – 9 April 1945) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, and key founding member of the Confessing Church. His writings on Christianity's role in the secular world have become widely influential, and his book The Cost of Discipleship has become a modern classic.[1]
Apart from his theological writings, Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Hitler's euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jews.[2] He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo and imprisoned at Tegel prison for one and a half years. Later he was transferred to a Nazi concentration camp. After being associated with the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, he was quickly tried, along with other accused plotters, including former members of the Abwehr (the German Military Intelligence Office), and then executed by hanging on 9 April 1945 as the Nazi regime was collapsing." Cops Called To Help Maintain Order At Southampton Town Trustees Meeting

here is the essay in full. at the end there is a brief bio on Bonhoeffer. i thought it pertinent to read this to the trustees due to Bonhoeffer's familiarity with over reaching power. his formation of thoughts and threading his ideas together is genius. i find hime very inspiring. i felt compelled to share so as to possibly open minds and hearts to a more communal way of thinking. i never referred to the trustees as nazis, i said that Bonhoeffer was a nazi dissident. you can watch the replay and see. the reason why i did not stop was taken from Chris Hedges "Wages of Rebellion" - Moral Imperative to Revolt. I never 'spoke' to the police. i was asked to move my name tag so it could be read by the officer, so i moved it to my shoulder. i am sure he went to see if i had any outstanding tradffic tickets or warrants but in that regard i am clean as the driven snow and i had my "get out jail free card " on me. funny, they call the cops on me when it is someone on the town board or the board of trustees that belong in jail. here it is, enjoy.
