Hospital's 'No Tipping' Policy Is Unfair, Says Parking Valet

$16/hour plus what benefits? Full medical? At about $1000/month for that benefit alone and 100 hours of work each month that equates to $26/hour.
Put the tip jar away or quit." Aug 17, 17 9:09 AM

Yes I read the entire article. Does not say whether this job has benefits. I don't really think that sick people going in the hospital and the families of sick people in the hospital need to worry about having change to give someone that is parking their car so that the hospital doesn't have to worry about transporting sick people from any open parking spaces blocks away. If you don't like this poiky quit your $16/hour job with or without benefits and go work at a coffee shop and look forward to your cup with singles and change in it." Aug 18, 17 2:57 AM

Do police officers receive tips? How about the school crossing guard? They don't make much more than this person does. Do I need to tip the bus driver? Taxi drivers get tips why not bus drivers? Once inside the hospital do It tip the orderly with the wheelchair? The nurses? Have some pride Americans, we're not all waiters in restaurants for rich people.
Yet." Aug 18, 17 9:27 AM

And when someone who is parking your car when you're dropping off your sick, aging parent and you don't have small bills or you're hands are full getting the wheelchair and the parking valet is demanding a tip and you're stressed and anxious about a health crisis, should you be worrying about some one taking worse care for your car because you didn't tip? The reason the valet is there is to expedite drop offs of sick people not some doofy party or a dinner at a restaurant.
Shame on you for demanding tips on top of your pay and taking advantage of sick people. Have some pride." Aug 19, 17 3:33 AM

How about we allow someone to bring a sick person to the hospital without having to worry about some stranger with their hand out? Or maybe we can get some drunks with squeegees offering to clean your windshield too." Aug 19, 17 7:30 AM

It's a hospital entrance, for dropping off sick people going to the hospital. They are by definition incapacitated in some way, and have family or friends helping them or they are alone. Anxiety levels are high. The last thing an invalid needs is another hurdle in getting from their car to the hospital, where they may be put in a wheelchair and helped to medical attendants.

So how about we pay the valet a decent wage, say, I don't know, $16 an hour, and forbid tipping so that there is no intimidation into tipping. If this attendant doesn't like the wage, then they can quit and line up at the 7-11 every morning for landscaping work which I believe now pays $20/hour. Of course that might require some effort beyond parking a car." Aug 20, 17 1:42 AM

State Lawmakers, Local Officials Celebrate Hospital Merger With Unveiling Of New Sign In Southampton

Did they tip the guy who made the sign? " Aug 21, 17 11:32 PM

Completely redundant services. Instead of lowering healthcare costs for local residents, this merger leading to new expensive facilities only justifies the exorbitant salaries of the hospital administrators. And since Stony Brook is a New York State funded entity, why do New York State taxpayers need to pay to have healthcare there? Disgraceful.

RIVERHEAD, NY – Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has received approval from a state health advisory panel for two cardiac catheterization (cath) suites and the relocation of the hospital’s helipad, a major element of Northwell Health’s unique SkyHealth critical care helicopter program.
The hospital’s certificate of need application was approved Thursday, November 17th, by the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council’s (PHHPC) Establishment and Project Review Committee. The committee’s actions require final approval from the PHHPC and State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, MD.
The new cath laboratories would be housed in a $43 million Critical Care Tower that will be constructed on the hospital’s Riverhead campus, providing life-saving capabilities for residents of central and eastern Suffolk County. The application by PBMC was supported by the state Department of Health’s Cardiac Advisory Committee, an ad hoc group of specialists in cardiac surgery." Aug 22, 17 11:59 AM

Supporters Of The Hills Turn Out In Force At Southampton Town Board Meeting Tuesday

New Head Of Southampton Town Public Safety Appointed, With Some Dissent

It's important to have $2 million+ of annual overhead to make sure no one rents on AirBnB. Otherwise, we would quickly be over run with European tourists, high net worth professionals, and upscale families seeking a weekend at the beach. Then where would all the indigent undocumented families live? We just can't build enough low income housing fast enough. Time to get more kids into our schools so our taxes can go up. Let's stop listening to all the right wingers whining about paying $500+/month in property taxes. The privilege of local access to the Board Barn and a run down beach pavillion with smelly bathrooms is worth 10x that cost. Viva El Hampton Bays! Viva!" Aug 26, 17 11:28 AM

UPDATE: PDD Would Have Less Nitrogen Impact, According To Gobler's Latest Environmental Report On 'The Hills'

What will the owners of Discovery Land do with the $100 million+ they will make when this zoning variance gets approved? I hope they buy some slices of pizza at the local restaurant and put that money back into the community." Aug 26, 17 1:01 PM

SUNY Stony Brook is a New York State funded entity. 70% of the expenses of Southampton Hospital are covered by payment's from the Federal Government from Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. Local government covers the rest from the payments to local Town employees, teachers, police and Town admin. New York State has more people and higher per capita income than Belgium. Belgium has full healthcare for it's residents. Why don't we have healthcare for New York State citizens? Governor Cuomo is a bum." Aug 27, 17 8:37 AM

Federal + 6.85% NY State + social security withholding + other withholding + Town of Southampton property taxes = 50%. Is that what you mean?" Aug 27, 17 1:22 PM

even flow & big fresh:
OUR TAXES ALREADY PAY FOR FREE HEALTHCARE -- we just don't get it.
From Southampton Hospital website -- do a google search if you don't believe me:
$144 million in "Patient Service Revenue" in 2015, over 70% was from the federal government in the form of Medicare and Medicaid payments. Every hospital in the country has this. The TOTAL expenses of Southampton Hospital in 2015? It's on the website.
$140 million once you take out the $6 million in non cash depreciation expense. THE REVENUES EXCEED THE EXPENSES.
The whole "insurance payment" scam is a Republican/Democrat slush fund. If we had any local government with leadership we should be allowed to AT LEAST BUY the insurance supplied to police, teachers, janitors, Town employees. If we had any REAL LEADERSHIP they would make the hospital FREE FOR LOCAL PROPERTY TAX PAYING FAMILIES.
Not undocumented kidney dialysis patients, not seasonal workers, not cigarette smoking, morbidly obese indigent homeless. Families of property tax paying locals -- free healthcare access.
Instead we get endless nonsense about the high cost of a small group of non local chronic sick indigent undocumented desperadoes.
DEMAND LEADERSHIP --> we already pay for healthcare, we just don't get it.
WHY IS EDUCATION FREE FOR UNDOCUMENTED LOCAL RESIDENTS BUT TAXPAYERS ARE TORTURED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR BASIC HEALTHCARE THAT EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY DELIVERS TO ITS CITIZENS?" Aug 28, 17 9:47 AM

Slimey: You're 100% right. There is no way that any free market business that gets 70% of its total costs covered by Medicare and Medicaid, and the rest of its costs covered by local government employee healthcare insurance, can ever effectively provide no or low cost healthcare to taxpaying citizens. And of course, you're right, those $1000 per member insurance costs for all local government employees are fixed forever in time and can only go up. It's better just to deny coverage to everyone who is not a government employee and to charge really high prices to those taxpayers. If they resist, call them racists and worse, european style socialists. Possibly even some sort of Communist.
You are a genius. Thank you for clearing that up for me." Aug 29, 17 9:16 AM

Raziza you are so correct:. Let's get rid of Medicare and Medicaid. Good thing the Republican majority in both houses of Congress and the Republican President have already fulfilled their campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare with their wonderful new healthcare legislation. Now to revamp the Ponzi scheme of Medicare and Medicaid -- next stop, replace Social Security with a national mandatory ETF investment. The wonderful investment banking community will have a good chance to implement their plans for a "private/public" organization to lead our country into the glorious 22nd Century where all US citizens will benefit from our national wealth, not just a few at the top. Also, global warming due to human introduction of carbon into the atmosphere is a crock. Stilleto heels will defeat flood waters every time!" Aug 30, 17 9:07 AM

It's the Ponziest! A Ponzipalooza.
How dare old people insist on getting money to be secure in their old age? Let's just feed them some oxycontin, that will quiet them down.
Razzi you have the best ideas: feed old people opiods to get them off that Ponzoid Social Security." Aug 30, 17 1:32 PM

Some School Districts See Low New Student Enrollment Numbers

HBLC:
Thank you for engaging with the non school community.
What percentage of the HB school population is ESL?
Compared with the beginning of your tenure?
HB school failed to meet the Common Core minimum since over.5% opted out of the testing, how can you determine that there is positive improvement if not all students are being measured?" Aug 31, 17 8:50 AM

HBLC:

Thank you for the prompt and informative response.

24% is lower than I expected, especially since the US Census numbers project that by the end of this year over 50% of Hampton Bays households will speak a language other than English.

Still that percentage is almost double your initial experience. Amazing change.

A 91% graduation rate is a great improvement:. A follow-up question:. What is the number of graduating Seniors that move on to either a 4 year or 2 year college? And how does that compare with previous years?" Aug 31, 17 11:48 AM

East End Organization Proposes Code Enforcement Crisis Task Force To Aid Affected Tenants

HB:. There is no housing crisis. Riverhead has plenty of houses for sale for less than $300,000 and Moriches and Mastic are even less expensive. In Southampton Township, any landlord would be foolish to rent a house to more than the legal limit of unrelated, undocumented tenants. First, there are the motels converted to multifamily housing. Are these legal or aren't they? If they are not legal close them down. It doesn't take 30 years with the FBI to figure that out. Second, there are houses with more than the legal limit of unrelated tenants. Rarely would a home.owner rent to a group of unrelated undocumented tenants unless they themselves.are somehow related, either by country of origin or some family tie. Other cases occur when a home owner rents to one family who swears in their written lease not to allow more people to stay in the house but then 30 "cousins" show up. Even if the landlord delivers an eviction notice, New York State law encourages months of haggling by tenants granting them protection from eviction. OLA would then make the landlord "liable to pay to bring the home into compliance" with code -- that seems like a great way to bankrupt anyone trying to rent. Why are we bending over backwards to prevent law enforcement against anyone EXCEPT property tax paying citizens in Southampton? Shouldn't anyone whose name is on a check written for local property taxes be given a courteous thank you from local civil servants?" Sep 3, 17 10:02 PM

Southampton Town Board Busy Reviewing Documents On 'The Hills' As Votes Approach

This zoning variance is worth at least $100 million in profit to the development company. What will the company do for the local economy? Will the landscaping and waitstaff jobs increase local employment opportunities? How many? 100? 200? With their families? Or will these dishwashing and grass cutting jobs go to "independent contractors" from newly formed companies from a different area? Are these new workers to be housed in East Quogue? Or Hampton Bays?" Sep 10, 17 8:09 AM

Mark Hissey:. You seem very well informed on this topic. Question for you:. Is the profit for the Development Company resulting from this zoning variance as promised to the Partners projected to be more than $100 million? And how much money is budgeted for swaying the votes on the Town Board? Has the Development Company estimated the legal expenses from the lawsuit against an adverse Board vote? Do your legal experts advise that personal lawsuits be filed against those who would rather not see a large scale golf club development in the midst of this community?" Sep 11, 17 8:01 AM

Southampton Town Board Busy Reviewing Documents On 'The Hills' As Votes Approach

Mr. Hissey no longer needs to engage the public. With the finding that building a golf course development means less pollution, he's now free to work the Board. For a $100 million in profits, he can offer some serious inducements to the 5 people whose vote counts. He needs four, so the last hold out gets the most. An interesting negotiating situation." Sep 12, 17 10:37 AM

It would be nice if the local community got 50% of the profits from this zoning variance. I wonder if Discovery Land would share the financial projections that they used to get their loans and equity partners?" Sep 14, 17 11:46 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Town Board Signs Off Thursday On Environmental Study For 'The Hills'

That is correct, Taz, or the "as of" right development value is less than what the overstuffed land trust fund would pay to turn it into a preserve. That would cost Discovery Land $100 million or more in lost profits so they will do everything to avoid that." Sep 16, 17 1:06 PM

Plans For Hampton Bays Diner Building Are Moving Forward

Hopefully it can be turned into something really ugly like the transformation of the Coast Guard Station. That hideous steel tower that is completely useless and the new white plastic boxes going up -- yes we really know how to make a town unattractive. Yeah that Coast Guard Station really gives us a great bang doe our tax dollars. UPDATE: Public Hearing On 'The Hills' Postponed To November 13

I'm confused. Is Superintendent Schneiderman for The Hills or not? Is there any legal reason for him to not go on record as to how he will vote on this zoning variance?" Oct 19, 17 5:39 PM

The "as of" right development, if The Hills is not granted a zoning variance, will never be built. There is no financial method for supplying construction capital for fout hundred 5 acre homes. It simply won't be able to finance. The CPF will buy the land, just like it bought the Lobster Inn property when the adjacent strip mall development was denied." Oct 19, 17 5:44 PM
