While responding to one accident on the western side of Hampton Bays, emergency crews were called to another accident on the opposite side of the hamlet, involving two cars and injuries.

Emergency radio communications reported the second accident occurred at the intersection of Canoe Place Road and Montauk Highway, at approximately 11:18 a.m.

Southampton Town Police said Pascaul Maldonado, 43, of Southampton was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck west on Montauk Highway when he attempted to make a left onto Canoe Place Road without yielding to the oncoming traffic.

When Mr. Maldonado made his turn, he collided head-on with a 2018 Toyota Sedan heading east on Montauk and being driven by Rosemarie Chiossi, 61, of Calverton, police said.

Mr. Maldonado was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, a misdemeanor, because he was driving with a suspended license, police said. He was also charged with failing to yield and not wearing a seatbelt.

Both drivers were transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital where they were treated with non-life-threatening injuries.
