The Southampton Town Board has extended the public comment period for a proposed luxury golf course resort targeting nearly 600 acres in East Quogue, giving residents nearly another month to voice opinions in writing.

The Town Board approved a resolution on Tuesday, February 28, to allow residents to continue to submit written comments to the town on the draft environmental impact statement beyond the previous March 9 deadline, up until April 1.

The project, dubbed The Hills at Southampton, is being pitched by the Discovery Land Company of Arizona. It is a 118-residential unit complex that would also feature an 18-hole golf course that would require Town Board approval of a special zoning designation called a planned development district, or PDD.

According to town officials, more time was added because written comments are still being submitted. Discovery Land attorney Wayne Bruyn consented to the extended time in a February letter to the town.

After the comment period is closed, the final environmental impact statement for The Hills proposal would then need to be filed within 45 days of April 2. An actual vote on the PDD proposal itself is later in the process.

I hope the mega mini mall gets approved because I hate having to drive into to village or other towns to buy my soda and nail clippers.

Keep pushing it off! This is pathetic! Make a decision already. But I forgot they are worried about the upcoming election. JJJ this stalling method is getting old!
