Wilkinson Will Run For Second Term In East Hampton

Mar 15, 2011 4:44 PM

Putting an end to speculation, East Hampton Town Supervisor Bill Wilkinson said this week that he will seek a second term in office this year.

Mr. Wilkinson, a Republican who has led the town since the beginning of 2010, said he will run again this fall because, while his administration has brought about “dramatic change,” there is still a ways to go toward his goal of bringing financial stability and operational efficiency to town government.

“There’s too much that has to be done,” said the supervisor, a resident of Montauk and a retired senior vice president for human resources for the Walt Disney Company. Mr. Wilkinson, who said during the 2009 campaign that he was interested in serving only one term, stressed that he would not seek a third term.

A Democratic challenger to Mr. Wilkinson has not yet emerged, as the party continues to screen potential candidates.

In addition to Mr. Wilkinson, two other Town Board members will see their terms end this year. Democratic Councilwoman Julia Prince said last month that she will not seek a second term, and Councilman Pete Hammerle, a Democrat who has sat on the board since 1996, said he has screened but Democratic leaders have not yet said whether or not he will be nominated.

Hope for the future. Republicans should get a 5-0 majority.

Pete is staying as far as we know. Be careful what you wish for. An all Repub. Board is a terrible idea. The town['s demise will result. Welcome to Coney Island. The Jersey Shore. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Never forget that. We need fresh and untainted people. Someone without loyalties and an agenda. Not friends of Wilkie for sure. Yikes!
