Informational Meeting For Manufactured Home Park Residents Planned October 29

Oct 11, 2019 7:51 PM

Manufactured home park residents are invited to an informational forum on Tuesday, October 29, to learn how the state’s Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 affects their rights.

The affordable housing and rent regulations bill contains sweeping reforms designed to protect tenants in permanent residential housing, including protections for manufactured home residents, such as a legal remedy for unreasonable rent increases.

State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. is hosting the forum with RuthAnne Visnauskas, the commissioner of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal; Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, the chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Housing; and a representative of the attorney general’s office.

“Manufactured homes are a critical source of affordable housing for residents in New York State, particularly for senior citizens on fixed incomes seeking to remain in their communities,” Mr. Thiele’s office stated. “This new law provides protections that address the uniqueness of homeownership in manufactured home parks.”

The October 29 forum will run from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Suffolk County Center Evans K. Griffing Building in the Maxine S. Postal Auditorium at 300 Center Drive in Riverhead.
