A Springs man was killed on Sunday evening after he was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by another car on Springs-Fireplace Road.

East Hampton Town Police said that Christian Bermeo, 28, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital after he was involved in a three-vehicle accident shortly after 5 p.m. on July 8 near the intersection of Cedar Ridge Drive and Springs-Fireplace Road.

Police said that Mr. Bermeo was heading south on Springs-Fireplace Road on a Yamaha motorcycle when he struck a car driven by Susan Israelson, 79, of East Hampton, who was turning from the northbound lane onto Cedar Ridge Drive. Mr. Bermeo was thrown from the motorcycle and was struck by another car driven by Colin Daley, 34, of Manorville, who was northbound on Springs-Fireplace Road.

According to his sister, Myra Bermeo, Mr. Bermeo had been living with his parents and his older brother, Franklin Bermeo, in Springs for the last 14 years after growing up in Cuenca, Ecuador. A graduate of East Hampton High School, Mr. Bermeo worked in construction and enjoyed playing soccer with friends. In fact, Ms. Bermeo said that her brother was on his way to play soccer on the day of the accident.

“He was a person who always wanted to show you his love, but he had a different way to show it,” Ms. Bermeo said. “He was unique.”

He is survived by his father, Leoncio; his mother, Mariana; his brothers, Franklin and Fabian; his sisters, Jenny and Myra; his girlfriend, Gabriela Acurio; and their son, Sebastian.

Nobody in either of the other cars involved in the accident was injured.

East Hampton Town Police Captain Chris Anderson said on Tuesday that no charges were filed against any of the drivers, although the accident is still under investigation.

As a passenger on a bike I can tell you this.....I would LOVE to be able to beat the life out of people texting. In fact texting , applying makeup, eating etc. There should be much heavier fines for texting imo....

If Mr. Bermeo was going straight on Springs-Fireplace Rd, then didn’t he have the right of way over someone turning off that road? In that case, the story should say the turning car hit him, rather than he hit the car turning in front of him? This is confusing.

Someone made a left hand turn in front of him. Many , many bikers are killed and injured this way.
