  • Soloists from Dance Centre of the Hamptons participated in their first competition of the year on  January 26 and 27, at the C.W. Post campus. Lucy Morrison, a third-grader at Remsenburg Speonk Elementary School, was named Emerging Artist Petite Miss Starquest. Lucy also won first overall in the Classic Level 8 and Under Category. Charlotte Dennehy, also a third-grader at Remsenburg, received second overall. Emely Carrillo, a third-grader from Hampton Bays, won first overall in the Select Level, 8 and under category.   • Nicholas Borrusso, accompanied by his dad, brought a donation to the VFW Post 5350 in Westhampton Beach, which was accepted by Post Commander William Hughes, right. The donation givin in honor of Eric Albert, Nicholas's teacher at Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary School.   • As the nation mourned the death of our 41st president, George H.W. Bush, Ine Wijtvliet of Remsenburg was reminded of a photo taken by her late husband,  Arthur Schatz, for People Magazine in July 1976 at Kennebunkport, Maine, when Mr. Bush was on the Republican ticket as vice president.   • Raynor Country Day School recently hosted its 20th annual Veterans Day celebration. The event included more than 100 honored veterans and featured a performance of the Star Spangled Banner by the senior band, vocal performances of America the Beautiful and the Armed Forces Medley were performed by the schoolwide chorus, and student speakers shared their poems and letters reflecting upon the significance of the day.
